A couple years ago, I had dreams three nights in a row, about Hellebores. Had never heard of them, checked things out with gardening friends. THIS one totally speaks to me, thank you for posting.
I spent the day at our conservatory, listening to the flowers and journaling. They had me learning about phytoplankton, their relatives who are working very hard to save this world.
That’s so interesting, Kim. I just read about some research from the Scripps Institute that is revealing that phytoplankton and other ocean microbes become more cooperative, rather than predatory or competitive, under changing environmental conditions like rising temperatures. It felt important when I read it and your plant-listening confirms that for me. These beings are incredible.
I am so looking forward to your book. This practice of earth listening - trying to repair the “psychic” connection between us and our flora/fauna kin. The grief of missing this being the normal - the relief of feeling it when the time is made.
And I loved your description of hellebore “ Living for several decades, they do not like to be uprooted, preferring to stand their ground and offer their deep devotion to the earth they are rooted in.”
Mmm thank you for bringing Hellebore and the monks into my morning. There’s this shared quality of deep rootedness in their action. Even as the monks are in motion, they are so clear in their presence with the communities they walk through. I take such inspiration from all of these beings for the path ahead. Sending gratitude, Mary 🤍
as the time passing by and with age, I feel more and more difficult to connect with the plants. I feel my nervous system more fragile and it's true that a closed heart won't help but I can't stop thinking that this busy stressed world infected my billions of 5G towers is also contributing for that...
It IS harder in our busy over stimulated world. And all the more reason it is so important that we make conscious efforts to make space and time to slow down and listen. I hope you can find some paths for connection.

They are really powerful allies, and I still have much to learn from them!

Yes indeed. The hubris of the western scientific mind creates walls. But bridges are being built rapidly now thank goodness
