Books, Bees, Flowers and More...
Igniting desire, and opening hearts-is there anything more worthwhile?
Each morning that I can, I go out to my garden to watch the bees moving so ecstatically from one flower to the next, so full of life, so excited by what the flowers have to offer. And then I settle deeper into the slower joy of the flowers who have successfully called the bees to their waiting offerings, celebrating a yearlong cycle of preparing for this moment.
Nothing says Life to me more than these rituals between flowers and bees that are over one hundred million years old. This is the call of a lover to their beloved, the generative force that has created us and all beings in the world today. The flowers called me too, as one of their beloved, though it took me many, many years of exploring to allow myself to begin to truly hear them.
With a mind schooled in the culture of science, it has taken a few decades to unravel the limitations of my education. Both a lifetime of immersing myself in nature, and the good fortune to encounter the books I needed at the time I was ready for them— have helped me open my heart, my imagination and my intuition to the flowers calling me to speak for them.
When books ignite our desires, and open our hearts, the world can change. Today I am sharing with you some of the books that I have loved, that have inspired me, and most importantly, shifted the way I see flowers and all the living world.
When I started looking at my books, I saw the lifetime of books that have influenced me, and I feel so much love for them! But today, these are the books I am sharing with you. These are not the science-based books—I will share those in another post. These books are the earth-based mystical books that made my heart sing. These are a few of the books that let me know other people saw the world as I did and gave me permission to greatly expand my boundaries.
In particular, Perdita Finn’s books and workshops have been life changing for me—opening the love and wisdom of countless ancestors, both human and non-human, and expanding my understanding of deep time in ways that enabled me to greatly expand my understanding of the flower’s stories.
Perdita is in the process of writing a new book, called Mothers of Magic: Recovering the Love at the Heart of the World, and most excitingly, she is teaching a new 7-week course based on this upcoming book. I highly recommend this opportunity to anyone who wants to explore how our culture has left many of us deprived of the mothering we truly need. Perdita shows us how we have a team of ancestral mothers always ready to guide us and support us. She is a fabulous, engaging teacher.
As at treat for yourself, just reading about the course is inspiring, even if you don’t sign up! Here is the link
I would love to know what books have inspired you. Please share in comments!
